Aluminum Baffle Ceiling System with U-Panels and V-Carrier
The Jawdah metal baffle ceiling is an open linear ceiling made of vertical aluminum U-panels clipped at regular spacing to a galvanized steel V-carrier, leaving the void above partly visible.
A baffle ceiling replaces a closed surface with a field of parallel vertical fins. Jawdah Industrial Co. Ltd. manufactures both the aluminum baffle profiles, called U-panels, and the matching V-carrier that holds them, for suspended baffle installations in commercial, public and industrial buildings across Saudi Arabia.
The system is also specified as aluminium baffle ceilings, aluminum baffles, metal baffle ceilings or suspended baffle ceilings. Standard U-panels are 40x10 mm or 50x10 mm in section and 2400 mm long, in alloys 3005 and 3105, 0.5 or 0.6 mm thick, white as standard with up to 110 colours on request.

Quick answer
A metal baffle ceiling is a suspended ceiling of vertical linear fins fixed to a carrier, with the void left visible between them. Jawdah's version uses aluminum U-panels (alloy 3005 or 3105, 0.5 or 0.6 mm, 2400 mm long, 40x10 or 50x10 mm drop x width) clipped to a hot dipped galvanized V-carrier, 0.55 mm thick and 4,000 mm long with a 25 mm punch module, hung on rod hangers.
What a baffle ceiling is and why it is used
A baffle ceiling is built from vertical linear elements suspended in parallel rows. From below, the eye reads lines, depth and shadow rather than a flat plane, and the services above remain partly visible or are painted out in a dark colour. Designers choose baffles when they want an open ceiling look without leaving the structure fully exposed.
In large spaces the repeated fins organise the visual rhythm of the room and can steer the eye along a concourse or corridor. Because the ceiling is open, air can move through it and lighting can be integrated between or across the rows, while services above remain accessible.
How the U-panel and V-carrier work together
The V-carrier is a galvanized steel channel punched at a 25 mm module along its 4,000 mm length. It is hung from the soffit with rod hangers, adjustment clips and anchor bolts and set level. The aluminum U-panels are clipped into the carrier at the chosen positions, hanging below it with their 40 mm or 50 mm drop facing downward.
Panel spacing is a design choice. Because the carrier is punched on a fixed module, panels can be set at close or wide centres to suit the architectural intent, and the rows run perpendicular to the carriers. Removing a panel only means unclipping it from the carrier.
- U-panel: the visible aluminum fin.
- V-carrier: concealed above the panels, 25 mm punch module.
- Rod hangers with adjustment clips: set the ceiling level.
- Anchor bolts: fix the hangers to the soffit.
U-panel sizes and options
Jawdah lists two standard U-panel sections, both with a 10 mm width; the difference is the drop, which controls how deep the fin appears and how much of the void it screens at an angle. Other sizes are available on request.
| Item | Value as stated |
|---|---|
| U-size, shallower drop | 40x10 mm (drop x width) |
| U-size, deeper drop | 50x10 mm (drop x width) |
| U-panel length | 2400 mm |
| Other sizes | Available upon request |
Where aluminum baffle ceilings are installed
Baffle ceilings are listed for malls, supermarkets, halls, shops, offices, airports and exhibition centres. They are also used in hotels and hospitality projects, hospitals and healthcare buildings, universities and educational facilities, showrooms and commercial corridors, and industrial and administrative buildings.
They suit high-traffic interiors and large volumes where a closed ceiling would feel heavy or would hide equipment that needs regular attention, and where the design calls for a modern open-ceiling appearance.

- Office lobbies and corporate interiors
- Exhibition centres and large halls

V-carrier and system components

| Component | Specification as stated |
|---|---|
| V-carrier material | Hot dipped galvanized steel, comply with ASTM A 653 |
| V-carrier thickness | 0.55 mm (standard) |
| V-carrier length | 4,000 mm |
| V-carrier size | 29x30x50 mm |

| Suspension accessories | Rod hangers, adjustment clips & anchor bolts |
What the stated references cover
The Class 0 reference as per BS 476 Part 7-1987, the humidity resistance according to ASTM D 2247 and the light reflectance more than 0.75 according to ASTM E 1477-98 are all stated for the aluminum raw material of the U-panel. They are not ratings of the installed baffle ceiling.
The V-carrier is a different material, hot dipped galvanized steel complying with ASTM A 653, and the aluminum fire and reflectance statements do not transfer to it. The Jawdah data gives no acoustic absorption value for the baffle system, so any acoustic expectation must be assessed for the project.
Design considerations for baffle layouts
Decide the baffle direction against the room: rows running along a corridor lengthen it visually, rows across it shorten it. Choose the drop with the viewing angle in mind; a 50 mm drop screens more of the void at oblique views than a 40 mm drop at the same spacing. Then set the spacing on the 25 mm carrier module.
Plan the void finish as part of the design, since it will be seen between the fins. Coordinate light fittings, sprinkler heads, smoke detectors and diffusers so they sit between rows or are integrated in the line, and check sprinkler spray patterns with the fire consultant for an open ceiling. Colour choice runs from white to up to 110 colours, subject to quantity.
Installation notes
Set out the carrier lines perpendicular to the baffle direction, fix anchor bolts, hang rod hangers and adjust the V-carriers to a common level before any panel is clipped. Clip the U-panels at the specified punch positions and check straightness along each row with a string line. Handle coated panels with clean gloves to protect the finish. The Jawdah installation manual is available in hard copy.
- Level all V-carriers before clipping panels.
- Keep panel joints staggered or aligned as the design requires.
- Check that end cuts are square and clean.
- Verify panel spacing against the 25 mm punch module.
Common baffle ceiling mistakes
Baffle ceilings fail visually more often than technically. Most problems come from planning, not from the product.
- Leaving the visible void unfinished or cluttered above the fins.
- Choosing panel spacing that does not match the carrier punch module.
- Assuming the baffle system has a stated sound absorption value.
- Applying the aluminum Class 0 statement to the steel V-carrier.
- Placing services across the fin direction without coordination.
Maintenance and access
The U-panels are listed as washable and easy to clean. Wipe with mild detergent and a soft cloth, working along the length of the fin. Because the ceiling is open, many services can be reached between the fins without removing anything; where a panel must come out, unclip it from the carrier and refit it at the same punch position.
Baffle, open cell or strip ceiling
All three are aluminum ceilings with a linear or open character, but they solve different briefs. Baffles give strong one-directional lines and an open void. An open cell ceiling gives a uniform grid of cells in two directions. A strip ceiling closes the plane with flat strips while keeping a linear look.
| Aspect | Baffle | Open cell | Strip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visual | Vertical fins in one direction | Square cells in a grid | Flat parallel strips |
| Void | Open | Open | Closed or near-closed |
| Carrier | V-carrier, 25 mm punch module | T-24 & T-15 grid (lay-on tiles) | C, R or V strip carrier |
| Key sizes | U 40x10 / 50x10 mm, 2400 mm long | Cells 50x50 / 75x75 / 100x100 mm | 84C/184C, 84R/134R, 150V/200V |
