Strip & Mesh Ceilings: Aluminum C, R and V Strip Systems

Jawdah strip ceilings are linear aluminum ceilings made of long formed strips that snap onto galvanized steel carriers, offered in three profiles — C-type, R-type and V-type — each plain or perforated.

Aluminium C-type strip ceiling panel by Jawdah

A strip ceiling, also called a linear ceiling, covers the soffit with parallel aluminum strips that run the length of the space. Jawdah Industrial Co. Ltd. produces three strip profiles from aluminum alloy 3005 or 3105, each with its own carrier: the C-type in 84C and 184C, the R-type in 84R and 134R with a 16 mm infill, and the V-type in 150V and 200V.

This category covers strip and mesh ceilings. The Jawdah product data contains strip ceilings only; there is no Jawdah mesh ceiling data, so mesh specifications are not given on this page and must be confirmed with the Jawdah team for any project that needs them.

Quick answer

Jawdah aluminum strip ceilings come in three types: C-type (84C gives a 100 mm module, 184C a 200 mm module), R-type (84R and 134R with a 16 mm infill give 100 mm and 150 mm face widths) and V-type (150V and 200V give 150 mm and 200 mm face widths). All use alloy 3005 or 3105, 110 colours, optional Ø 1.8 mm perforation, and 4000 mm galvanized carriers 0.55 mm thick.

What a strip ceiling is

Strip ceilings are built from long, narrow aluminum panels with formed edges. The strips clip onto carriers fixed at right angles above them, so the ceiling reads as a series of continuous lines. The profile of the strip edge, and whether a joint or infill sits between strips, gives each type its character.

Because the strips are long and light, a strip ceiling suits corridors, malls, transport buildings and covered external areas where a strong directional line is wanted. Individual strips can be released from the carrier for access to services above.

C-type, R-type and V-type compared

The three Jawdah strip types differ in profile, width and standard thickness. The C-type gives a flat, closed linear plane on a 100 mm or 200 mm module. The R-type uses an infill joint between strips, producing a softer line with 100 mm or 150 mm face widths. The V-type gives the widest standard faces, 150 mm and 200 mm, with a pronounced linear rhythm.

Shared material and finish

All three profiles use the same aluminum material and coating. The strips are produced in aluminum alloy 3005 or 3105 with a pre-painted polyester coating of 25 microns on the front and 5 microns on the back according to EN 1396, and are available in 110 different colours. Border or wall angles are made of the same material as the panel.

Where strip ceilings are used

Jawdah lists strip ceilings for bathrooms, kitchens, wet areas, halls, outdoor bottom covering, hospitals, shops, offices, airports and exhibition centres. Perforated strips are also positioned for offices, corridors, public buildings, transport areas, shopping centres and interior fit-out projects where acoustic comfort matters.

Outdoor bottom covering, such as the underside of canopies and covered walkways, is a use that sets strip ceilings apart from the tile families on this site; the linear aluminum strips are suited to semi-exposed soffits as well as interiors.

References and their scope

The strip data states light reflectance more than 0.8 according to ASTM E 1477-98 and humidity resistance up to 1000 HRS according to ASTM D 2247, both for the raw material. These values differ from the metal tile values and should not be copied onto tile specifications, or the reverse. The Class 0 references under BS 476 are also raw-material statements. Perforation is listed for acoustical usage, but no sound absorption coefficient is given.

Carriers and angles for each profile

Each strip type clips only onto its own carrier, which is why the type must be fixed before ordering suspension. Carriers are hot dipped galvanized steel complying with ASTM A 653, 0.55 mm thick as standard and 4,000 mm long, in four versions: 84R, 134R, 84C/184C and 150V/200V. The strip ceiling suspension systems page covers them in full.

Choosing a strip type

Start with the width you want to see. Narrow 100 mm modules (84C, 84R) give a fine, dense line; 150 mm and 200 mm faces (134R, 150V, 184C, 200V) read as bolder planks and need fewer strips per metre. Then decide on the joint: the R-type infill gives a consistent, softer gap; the C-type gives a crisp closed plane; the V-type shows a more pronounced rhythm.

Run strips along the main direction of movement to lengthen a corridor visually, or across it to widen it. Use perforated strips where noise control is needed, and keep plain strips in wet or easy-clean zones.

  • Fine, dense lines: 84C or 84R.
  • Wide planks: 184C or 200V.
  • Mid width with a soft joint: 134R.
  • External soffits: confirm exposure and detailing with Jawdah.

Strip ceiling selection mistakes

Strip systems are not interchangeable, so most errors come from mixing parts of different types.

  • Ordering a carrier that does not match the strip code.
  • Assuming R-type face width excludes the 16 mm infill; it includes it.
  • Using tile reflectance values (0.75) for strips, which state 0.8.
  • Expecting a mesh ceiling specification from Jawdah data; none is listed.
  • Forgetting border angles at walls and openings.

Strip, mesh or another metal ceiling

If you need a linear closed ceiling, compare the three strip pages: C-type, R-type and V-type. If you need an open linear ceiling, look at the metal baffle ceiling. For expanded or woven mesh ceilings, contact Jawdah; the approved data does not include a mesh product, so dimensions, materials and finishes would have to be confirmed per project.

Why Jawdah strip ceilings

Jawdah supplies the strips, carriers, infill joints and border angles as one matched system. Technical Data Sheets for the C-type, R-type and V-type strip ceilings, the Strip Ceiling Suspension System Technical Data Sheet and the Metal Ceiling System Catalogue are available on request, with installation manual and tests in hard copy.
