Gypsum Ceiling Tiles: Plain, Acoustic Perforated and GRG Options
Gypsum ceiling tiles from Jawdah are lay-on gypsum or GRG modules with a PVC laminated or painted face, made in plain and acoustic perforated versions for exposed T-15 and T-24 suspension grids.

Jawdah Industrial Co. Ltd. manufactures gypsum ceiling tiles in square and rectangular formats for suspended ceilings in offices, healthcare, education, retail and public buildings. The range splits along two lines: core (standard gypsum or glass-fibre reinforced gypsum, GRG) and face (plain or acoustically perforated).
This page helps you pick the right branch. It sets out the four Jawdah gypsum tile products, the four gypsum types (RG, MR, FR, FMR), the finishes and the grid, and it shows how a tile ceiling differs from a continuous gypsum board ceiling.
Quick answer
Jawdah gypsum ceiling tiles are gypsum or GRG tiles that rest on the flanges of exposed T-15 and T-24 grids. Plain gypsum tiles come in 7.5, 9.5, 12.5 and 15 mm; perforated acoustic gypsum tiles in 9.5 and 12.5 mm; GRG tiles in 12.5 mm. Sizes are 600x600 mm and 600x1200 mm, faces are PVC laminated or painted, and gypsum tiles are offered as Regular, Moisture Resistance, Fire Resistance or Fire & Moisture Resistance types.
The gypsum branch of Jawdah's ceiling tile range
Gypsum tiles are the core of Jawdah's non-metal ceiling offer. They are made to drop into an exposed Tee-Grid, so every tile can be lifted for access to services. The product range includes more than 20 PVC lamination design options, painted finishes and anti-bacterial paint options.
Within the branch, plain tiles give a smooth, closed face; perforated tiles add sound absorption through a hole pattern backed by acoustic tissue; GRG tiles reinforce the core with glass fibre for harder edges and additional edge profiles.

Typical spaces for gypsum tiles
Jawdah names offices, schools, hospitals, commercial buildings, showrooms and interior fit-out projects as typical uses for its gypsum tiles. For the perforated tiles it adds auditoriums, cinemas, conference rooms and studios, where reverberation control is part of the brief.
Across Saudi Arabia, gypsum tile ceilings are a common choice for healthcare and education projects because tiles lift out for maintenance of air-conditioning, electrical and fire services without cutting the ceiling.
Core, face and back
The gypsum core of the standard tiles complies with ASTM C1396 and EN-520 according to Jawdah's specification. Perforated gypsum tiles are described with an asbestos-free standard core. GRG tiles are made from Fiber Glass Reinforced gypsum.
Faces are PVC laminated or painted, with anti-bacterial paint available upon request. Plain tiles are backed with aluminum foil; perforated tiles are backed with white fiberglass acoustical tissue, which sits behind the holes and contributes to sound absorption.
Key specifications side by side
Weight and core density of the standard gypsum tiles vary according to thickness and type; GRG values are fixed in the data. Request the technical data sheet of the chosen product for the full schedule.

Test references and their scope
Plain gypsum tiles: fire resistance Class E, acceptable as per BS EN 13501-1:2007; light reflectance more than 0.8 according to BS 8493:2008; water vapour transmission according to ASTM E 96-00; thermal insulation acceptable as per BS EN 1602:1997. The material is tested as per C473-06a / Clause 11, 12 & 13.
Perforated gypsum and GRG tiles: NRC and SAA from 0.25 up to 0.9 according to BS EN ISO 354, BS EN ISO 11654 and ASTM C423. Plain GRG tiles share the light reflectance, water vapour and thermal references of plain gypsum tiles. Each reference stays with the product it is stated for.
Choosing the gypsum type: RG, MR, FR or FMR
The four types are formulations of the gypsum tile. They describe what the tile is made to tolerate; they do not convert the tile into a rated fire barrier, and Jawdah's data does not assign a fire-resistance period to any tile type.
| Type | Typical use (general guidance) |
|---|---|
| Regular (RG) | Dry, conditioned interiors such as offices and classrooms |
| Moisture Resistance (MR) | Rooms with higher humidity, such as pantries or corridors near wet areas |
| Fire Resistance (FR) | Where the specification calls for a fire-resistant gypsum formulation |
| Fire & Moisture Resistance (FMR) | Where both humidity and a fire-resistant formulation are required |
Confirm the type against the project fire and moisture specification. Moisture resistance is not suitability for direct wetting.
Grid and accessories supplied with the tiles
Jawdah lists the system contents for its gypsum tiles as the tiles themselves, a Tee-Grid suspension system (T24 / T15) with Main Tee, Cross Tee 120, Cross 60 and Wall angle, and suspension accessories: Rod Hangers, Adjustment Clips and Anchor Bolts.
Details of the grid are on T-Grid Systems, and hanger and fixing items are on Ceiling Accessories.
Site practice for gypsum tiles
Store tiles flat, in their packaging, in a dry and enclosed area; gypsum takes up moisture and can bow if stacked on edge or left in a humid shell. Install tiles only after the building is closed in, wet trades are finished and air-conditioning is running or the space is otherwise stable.
Cut tiles at the perimeter with a sharp blade from the face side, so the PVC film or paint does not tear. Keep cut edges clean and seated fully on the wall angle.
What to check on delivery
Check that the delivered thickness, type, size and face match the approved submittal, that edges are square and undamaged, and that PVC film is bonded without bubbles or lifting. For perforated tiles, confirm the pattern code and that the acoustic tissue is continuous on the back.
Tile ceiling or continuous gypsum board ceiling?
A tile ceiling is made of tiles that lift out by hand within an exposed grid, giving fast access to services everywhere. A gypsum board ceiling forms a continuous, jointed surface that can be shaped with levels and lighting coves, but it needs access panels wherever services must be reached.
Many projects combine both: board ceilings in lobbies and feature areas, and tile ceilings in offices, wards and back-of-house. For the board option see Ceiling Solutions, and for access openings see Ceiling Access Panels.
