Aluminum Open Cell Lay-On Ceiling Tiles, 600x600 mm
Jawdah aluminum open cell lay-on ceiling tiles are 600x600 mm panels of interlocked aluminum U-blades that rest on an exposed T-24 or T-15 Tee-grid, turning a standard grid into an open cell ceiling.
The lay-on open cell tile packages an open cell lattice into the same module as an ordinary ceiling tile. Each 600x600 mm panel is a ready-made grid of square cells, and installers simply place it onto the flanges of the main and cross tees. The result is an open, textured ceiling built with familiar grid components and familiar site methods.
Jawdah Industrial Co. Ltd. produces these tiles in aluminum alloy 3005 or 3105, in thicknesses of 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 mm, with cell sizes of 50x50, 75x75 or 100x100 mm and U-blades of 40x10 or 50x10 mm (drop x width). Tiles are white as standard and can be produced in up to 110 colours.

Quick answer
Jawdah aluminum open cell lay-on tiles are 600x600 mm (metric or imperial) open cell panels that sit on T-24 or T-15 Tee-grids. They are made from aluminum alloy 3005 or 3105, 0.3 to 0.6 mm thick, with 50x50, 75x75 or 100x100 mm cells and 40x10 or 50x10 mm U-blades. The finish is pre-painted polyester to EN 1396, white as standard or up to 110 colours.
Why put an open cell ceiling into a T-grid
Many projects want an open ceiling in some zones and a closed tile ceiling in others. Lay-on open cell tiles solve this on one grid: the same T-24 or T-15 layout can carry plain or perforated metal tiles in offices and open cell tiles in a lobby, café or circulation spine. Because each open cell tile lifts out like a normal tile, maintenance access is no different from the rest of the ceiling.
The modular approach also simplifies procurement and installation. Contractors work with standard grid components, set the grid once, and fill it with panels that arrive ready to lay on, rather than assembling a cell lattice on site.
Key facts about the Jawdah lay-on tile
The lay-on tile is the modular version of the Jawdah aluminum open cell range. The same alloys, coating and cell geometry are used as for continuous open cell ceilings, but the tile has a defined 600x600 mm panel size and a defined suspension: the T-24 and T-15 Tee-grid systems.
- Panel size 600x600 mm, metric or imperial.
- Cell sizes 50x50, 75x75 or 100x100 mm.
- U-size 40x10 or 50x10 mm (drop x width).
- Thickness 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 or 0.6 mm; others on request.
- Suspension: T-24 & T-15 Tee-grid.
How the tile is built
Each tile is a lattice of aluminum U-section blades slotted together at right angles. The blades form the cell walls; their drop gives the tile its depth and their 10 mm width gives the visible line of the grid. The outer blades of the panel are shaped to sit on the flanges of the Tee-grid so the panel locates in the module.
Blades are cut from coil coated with pre-painted polyester, 25 microns on the outside and 5 microns on the back, according to EN 1396, so every exposed face carries the factory finish.

Where lay-on open cell tiles fit
Jawdah lists the lay-on tiles for malls, supermarkets, halls, shops, offices, airports and exhibition centres, and for showrooms, shopping centres, public buildings, commercial facilities and interior fit-out projects.
They are especially practical in buildings that already use a T-grid ceiling: food courts within a mall, a reception zone inside an office floor, or a feature strip along an airport concourse can switch to open cell without changing the grid system.
Scope of the stated references
Class 0 under BS 476 Part 7-1987, humidity resistance per ASTM D 2247 and light reflectance above 0.75 per ASTM E 1477-98 are statements about the aluminum the blades are made from. The Tee-grid has its own separate reference (Class A1, raw material). Neither describes the fire or acoustic behaviour of the finished open ceiling, and the Jawdah data gives no acoustic value for open cell tiles.
Design tips for open cell zones on a T-grid
Keep the grid colour consistent with the tile colour so the tee flanges disappear into the lattice; Jawdah lists nine standard grid colours with others on request. Where open cell and closed tiles meet on the same grid, place the change along a main tee line for a clean edge.
Remember that the 600x600 mm module must suit the chosen cell size: 50x50, 75x75 and 100x100 mm cells give different numbers of cells per tile, so check the visual rhythm at tile joints on a sample before ordering in bulk.
Installing lay-on open cell tiles
Install, level and square the Tee-grid first, using Main Tees, Cross Tee 120, Cross 60 and wall angles hung on rod hangers with adjustment clips. Finish and paint the void and services above, since they stay visible. Then lift each open cell tile into its module and lower it onto the flanges. Handle tiles by the outer frame to avoid bending blades. The installation manual is available in hard copy.
- Grid fully levelled before tiles are placed.
- Void painted and services tidy before closing.
- Tiles handled by the perimeter, not the inner blades.
- Cut tiles at walls supported by the wall angle.
Mistakes when ordering lay-on open cell tiles
Orders for open cell tiles should state every geometric parameter, because cell size, blade depth and thickness are independent choices.
- Specifying cell size but not U-size, or the reverse.
- Ordering tiles for a T-15 grid when the site has T-24.
- Mismatching grid colour and tile colour.
- Expecting a closed look from large cells under a low ceiling.
Cleaning and access
Open cell tiles are listed as easy to clean. Dust the blades with a soft brush or vacuum with a brush head, and wipe with a mild detergent where needed. For access to services, lift the tile out of its module, set it down flat on a clean surface, and replace it in the same orientation so the cell lines continue across the ceiling.
Why Jawdah open cell lay-on tiles
Jawdah supplies the open cell tiles together with the T-grid and hanging accessories, so the panel frame and the grid flange are matched. For other configurations see the open cell ceiling overview. What size are Jawdah open cell lay-on tiles?
The panel size is 600x600 mm, available in metric or imperial.
Which grids do they fit?
They are designed for T-24 and T-15 Tee-grid suspension systems with Main Tee, Cross Tee 120, Cross 60 and wall angle.
What cell sizes can I choose?
Cells of 50x50 mm, 75x75 mm or 100x100 mm, with U-blades of 40x10 mm or 50x10 mm (drop x width).
