Semi-Corrugated Wall Sandwich Panel

The semi-corrugated wall sandwich panel is the Jawdah PIR wall panel supplied with a lightly ribbed metal face, an option listed in the Jawdah profile table for U-lock external and internal faces and for the internal face of Z-lock panels.

Semi-corrugated is a face profile, not a separate panel type. The panel keeps the same polyisocyanurate (PIR) core, thickness range and facing materials as every Jawdah wall panel; what changes is the shallow ribbing pressed into the metal sheet, which gives the wall a textured industrial look and adds stiffness to the face.

Choose this page when the question is about appearance and face behaviour: whether a ribbed face suits a factory, warehouse or partition, how it differs from a flat face, and why it is usually not the choice for a smooth architectural façade.

Quick answer

A semi-corrugated wall sandwich panel is an insulated wall panel whose metal face carries shallow, regularly spaced ribs instead of being flat. Jawdah lists semi-corrugated faces for both faces of its U-lock wall panel and for the internal face of its Z-lock panel. It uses the same PIR core and 50, 75 or 100 mm thicknesses as the rest of the wall range.

What semi-corrugated means on a sandwich panel

Panel faces are described by how much profile is rolled into the metal. A plain face is essentially flat; a semi-corrugated face has low ribs at regular intervals; deeper corrugations and high ribs are used where more stiffness or a bolder pattern is needed. Semi-corrugated sits in the middle: it reads as a ribbed surface from a distance but stays easy to clean and to align.

On a wall, the light ribbing breaks up the large flat areas of metal. This reduces the visual effect of small surface undulations, sometimes called oil-canning, that can appear on wide flat sheets under strong sun, and it gives the façade a regular vertical or horizontal rhythm depending on how the panels are laid.

Where the semi-corrugated face appears in Jawdah data

The Jawdah profile table lists the external and internal cladding design for each panel type. Semi-corrugated appears as one of the two face options in several positions, always paired with plain as the alternative. It is the item's main published, item-specific fact; there is no separate description text for this option.

Because the face option is part of the standard wall panel, every other Jawdah wall fact also applies: a PIR core stated to meet the DIN 4102 B2 fire classification, facings in PPGI, aluminium, stainless steel or galvanized iron, polyester or PVDF coating, and a standard Cloud White colour with other colours on request.

For the Z-lock external face the English and Arabic sources describe the corrugated option differently; that face is confirmed with Jawdah per project.

How light ribbing changes the panel face

Each small rib acts like a tiny folded beam in the sheet. Together they make the outer metal skin less prone to local denting and waviness than a flat sheet of the same thickness, which is helpful on long panels and on walls that people, trolleys or forklifts pass close to.

The thermal performance comes from the PIR core, not from the face profile, so a semi-corrugated panel and a plain panel of the same thickness are compared using the same Jawdah U-value and R-value table. The face choice is therefore an appearance, robustness and cleaning decision rather than an insulation decision.

Where a semi-corrugated wall face suits

Semi-corrugated faces are a natural fit for buildings where an honest industrial look is acceptable or wanted: factory walls, warehouse elevations, workshops, agricultural buildings and prefabricated site buildings. As an internal face, the light ribbing is common inside storage halls and production areas where the wall must be robust and washable rather than decorative.

For a commercial frontage, showroom or office façade where a flat, seamless look is the design intent, consider a plain face or a concealed-fix panel instead. Many projects combine both: semi-corrugated on rear and side elevations, a smoother panel on the street elevation.

  • Factory and workshop external walls
  • Warehouse and logistics building elevations
  • Internal faces of storage and production halls
  • Agricultural and prefabricated buildings
  • Internal partitions where robustness matters more than a flat finish

Facing metals and coatings for a ribbed face

The ribbed face can be specified in any of the Jawdah covering materials: PPGI (pre-painted galvanized iron), aluminium, stainless steel or galvanized iron, with polyester or PVDF coating. The standard colour is Cloud White; other colours are available upon request.

Ribbing shows colour differences and sheen more clearly than a flat face because light falls on the rib flanks at different angles. When a project uses darker or metallic colours on a semi-corrugated face, ask for a sample of the coated profile and approve it on site under daylight before the bulk order is released.

Thermal values that apply to the semi-corrugated wall panel

The wall panel U-values and R-values published by Jawdah apply to the panel by thickness regardless of face profile. Select the thickness from the thermal requirement, then select semi-corrugated or plain for each face.

Core classification and its limits

The face profile does not change the fire data. Jawdah states the PIR core meets DIN 4102 B2, with flammability given as DIN 4102-1, Class B2. This describes the reaction to fire of the core material only and does not give the wall a fire-resistance duration. Other core data, such as densities measured to ASTM D 1622 and closed cell content to ASTM D 2856, are listed in the Technical Data Sheet available from Jawdah.

Design tips for semi-corrugated elevations

Decide the rib direction early. Panels laid vertically give vertical ribs that emphasise height and shed dust and rain downwards; panels laid horizontally give long horizontal lines that make low buildings look longer. The rib direction also affects how flashings and window trims meet the face, so coordinate the profile with the wall flashings details.

Keep the face choice consistent on any one elevation. Mixing semi-corrugated and plain panels side by side on the same wall usually looks like a supply error rather than a design decision, unless it is clearly separated by a band, opening or change of plane.

Installing panels with a ribbed face

Installation follows the general Jawdah wall panel method and the Installation Manual available in hard copy. With a ribbed face, fasteners are normally placed in a consistent position relative to the ribs so that the fixing pattern looks deliberate, and washers seat on a flat part of the profile.

Seal the side laps and the panel ends according to the manual, and close the rib voids at the top and bottom of the wall where the detail requires it, so that dust, insects and wind-driven rain cannot travel along the ribs into the building.

Mistakes to avoid with semi-corrugated faces

The ribbed face is simple, but a few specification gaps cause repeated site queries.

  • Expecting the ribbed face to improve insulation; thermal values depend on thickness
  • Specifying semi-corrugated on the Z-lock external face without confirming the profile
  • Forgetting to state the face profile separately for the external and internal sheet
  • Not approving a coated sample when using dark or metallic colours
  • Leaving rib-end closures out of the flashing and accessory schedule

Semi-corrugated vs plain vs secret fix

All three use the same Jawdah PIR wall panel data. The decision is about face appearance, robustness and whether fasteners should be visible. A plain face gives a calm, flat surface; semi-corrugated adds texture and stiffness; a Secret Fix Wall Sandwich Panel is chosen when the elevation must hide its fixings.

Frequently asked questions

Is semi-corrugated a different panel from the standard Jawdah wall panel?

No. It is a face option of the same PIR wall panel. Jawdah lists semi-corrugated or plain as the cladding designs for its wall panels, so the core, thickness range and facing materials stay the same.

On which faces is semi-corrugated available?

The Jawdah profile table lists it for the external and internal faces of the U-lock wall panel, for the internal face of the Z-lock wall panel, and for the internal face of the high-rib roof panel.

Does a semi-corrugated face insulate better than a plain face?

No. Insulation comes from the PIR core. Compare panels by thickness using the Jawdah U-value and R-value data; the face profile changes appearance and stiffness, not the thermal rating.

Can I have a semi-corrugated outside face and a plain inside face?

Yes, the profile table gives the external and internal cladding designs separately, each as semi-corrugated or plain for the U-lock panel. State the combination clearly in the RFQ.

Why choose semi-corrugated for a warehouse?

The ribs make the face more resistant to small dents and hide minor waviness on long panels, and the textured look suits industrial buildings. It remains easy to wash, which helps in storage and production areas.

Is semi-corrugated suitable for a shopfront or office façade?

It can be used, but where the design calls for a flat, fastener-free look, a plain face or a concealed-fix panel is usually preferred. Many projects use semi-corrugated on secondary elevations only.

What is the rib size of the semi-corrugated face?

The Jawdah source lists the option but not its rib dimensions. The profile geometry is shown in the System Catalogue and is confirmed by the Jawdah team on request.

Which colours are available on semi-corrugated panels?

Cloud White is the standard colour and other colours are available upon request. Approve a coated sample of the ribbed profile before bulk production when the colour is dark or metallic.
