T-Grid Suspension Systems (T-24 & T-15)

The Jawdah T-Grid is an exposed ceiling suspension system of hot-dipped galvanized iron tees with a pre-painted or aluminum cap, made in T-24 and T-15 profiles to carry lay-in, lay-on and tegular ceiling tiles.

The Tee Grid is one of the most widely used frameworks for suspended ceilings. Jawdah supplies it with the required suspension accessories so that a contractor receives main tees, cross tees, wall angles, hangers, adjustment clips and anchor bolts as one matched package.

Inverted T-shaped main runners and cross tees hang from the soffit and meet perimeter wall angles, forming open modules into which tiles simply rest. Because each tile lifts out by hand, the ceiling void stays accessible for maintenance of lighting, air distribution and other services.

Quick answer

A T-Grid suspension system is the visible metal grid that holds lay-in ceiling tiles. Jawdah makes it in T-24 (24 mm flange) and T-15 (15 mm flange) profiles from hot-dipped galvanized iron to ASTM A653M, in 0.28mm regular and 0.32mm heavy-duty thickness, with a Main-Tee of 3600MM, Cross-Tees of 1200MM and 600MM, wall angles and suspension accessories.

What the Jawdah T-Grid is and where it fits

An exposed grid does two jobs at once. Structurally, it spans between hangers and carries the tiles, light fittings and air terminals set into the ceiling. Visually, its flange forms the lines that divide the ceiling into modules, so the grid is part of the interior design rather than a hidden component.

The Jawdah T-Grid is aimed at commercial, industrial and interior finishing projects where a practical, accessible ceiling is needed. It is offered in two profiles, two thickness levels, metric and imperial sizes and a choice of cap finishes, and it is the recorded suspension for Jawdah lay-in metal tiles and aluminum open cell lay-on tiles.

System anatomy: main tees, cross tees and wall angles

Main tees are the long primary members. They run parallel across the room and hang directly from the hangers. Cross tees lock into slots along the main tees at right angles, and the shorter cross tees then divide those bays again. Wall angles fixed around the perimeter receive the ends of both members and carry the edge tiles.

The Jawdah product data notes that the lock design makes the grid module demountable without tools. That matters during service work, when a section of grid sometimes has to be opened to install a new fitting or reach a duct.

T-24 or T-15: choosing the flange width

The T-24 profile has a 24 mm wide exposed flange and is the standard grid for square-edge lay-in tiles. The T-15 profile has a 15 mm wide exposed flange, giving a narrower sight line and a finer ceiling appearance. Both share the same component logic of main tees, cross tees and perimeter angles.

Thickness is the second choice. The 0.28mm option is designated Regular and the 0.32mm option Heavy duty; the heavier gauge is the one to discuss when a ceiling carries more fittings or uses heavier tiles. Sizes are available in metric and imperial ranges, and the module most often built with the metric components is 600×600 mm or 600×1200 mm.

Applications of the T-Grid in Saudi projects

Jawdah lists its T-Grid for its metal and gypsum ceiling tiles in auditoriums, cinemas, halls, computer rooms, hospitals, shops, offices, utility rooms, airports, exhibition centers, conference rooms and studios. The same grid also helps organise ceiling layouts around lighting, air conditioning openings and service access points in schools, commercial buildings and industrial facilities.

An exposed grid is a natural fit wherever services above the ceiling are visited often: data rooms, hospital corridors, retail back-of-house and office floors that are refitted between tenants. In these areas, lifting a tile is quicker and cleaner than opening a sealed ceiling.

Core material, cap and finish options

The body of each tee is hot-dipped galvanized iron stated to comply with American ASTM A653M. Galvanizing gives the hidden web of the profile its corrosion and humidity resistance, which the Jawdah data lists among the product features.

The visible cap is either pre-painted galvanized iron or aluminum. The pre-painted cap is offered in 9 main standard colors, with other colors upon client request, and an anti-bacterial paint option is available on request for interiors where hygiene is a design priority, such as healthcare areas. Specify the cap colour together with the tile colour so that grid lines read as intended.

Standard and fire references, with their scope

Two references are recorded for the Jawdah T-Grid. The core profile material is stated to comply with American ASTM A653M, the standard for hot-dip zinc-coated steel sheet. The fire rating is recorded as Class A1 for the raw material.

Neither reference is a rating for the finished ceiling. A raw-material classification describes how the metal behaves; it does not give the installed ceiling a fire-resistance period. Where a project needs a tested ceiling assembly, that requirement is raised with the Jawdah team as a separate question.

Tiles that sit on the Jawdah T-Grid

The Jawdah data lists the T-Grid as compatible with square edge (lay-on) ceiling tiles, lay-in ceiling tiles, tegular edge ceiling tiles and clip-in ceiling tiles. Across the Jawdah range, the grid is recorded as the suspension for Lay-In metal ceiling tiles in aluminum, galvanized steel and stainless steel, for aluminum open cell lay-on tiles, and for gypsum ceiling tiles and GRG tiles.

Because one grid accepts several tile ranges, a project can mix finishes in one ceiling, for example plain and perforated aluminum tiles alongside gypsum tiles. Where a flush ceiling with no visible grid is wanted, the concealed Clip-In suspension system is the recorded partner for Jawdah clip-in tiles; the clip-in entry in the T-Grid list should be confirmed per project.

  • Square edge (lay-on) tiles rest flat on the flange.
  • Lay-in tiles drop into the module from above.
  • Tegular edge tiles have a stepped edge that sits below the flange line.
  • Clip-in tiles: confirm the configuration per project.

Installation sequence for an exposed grid

Installation starts with a level line around the room. Wall angles are fixed to that line, anchor bolts are set in the soffit, and rod hangers with adjustment clips are dropped to carry the main tees. Main tees are hung and levelled first; cross tees are then clicked into place to complete the module before tiles are laid in.

Set the first main tee so that cut tiles at opposite walls are of similar size. Keep light fittings and diffusers aligned with the module, and provide independent hangers where a fitting's documentation requires it. Jawdah lists an Installation Manual and Tests for the T-Grid, available in hard copy, alongside the T-Grid Suspension System Technical Data Sheet and the Metal Ceiling System Catalogue.

What to inspect on delivery and after installation

On delivery, check that profile (T-24 or T-15), thickness, cap finish and colour match the order and that caps are free of scratches. After installation, check that main tees are straight and level, that cross tees are fully locked, that wall angles are continuous at corners, and that every hanger is plumb and tight.

  • Profile and thickness marked on the delivery match the BOQ.
  • Cap colour is consistent between batches in one room.
  • Cross-tee connections are fully engaged.
  • No visible sag between hangers once tiles are laid.

Mistakes to avoid when specifying a T-Grid

Most grid problems come from incomplete specifications rather than from the product itself.

  • Mixing T-24 and T-15 components in one ceiling.
  • Ordering metric tiles for an imperial grid, or the reverse.
  • Choosing the regular thickness where many fittings load the grid.
  • Omitting the wall angle shape, so the perimeter detail is undecided on site.
  • Leaving the cap colour unspecified when tiles are coloured.
  • Treating Class A1 for the raw material as a fire rating of the ceiling.

Cleaning and service access

A T-Grid needs little maintenance. Caps can be wiped with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner; avoid scouring pads that would mark the painted face. When tiles are lifted for service work, handle them with clean gloves and return them to the same module so that colour and edge fit stay consistent.

If a section of grid must be opened for new equipment, the demountable lock design lets cross tees be released and refitted without tools. Replace any bent tee rather than straightening it, so that the ceiling line stays true.

T-Grid compared with concealed and linear suspension

Compared with a Clip-In system, the T-Grid shows its framework, but tiles lift out more simply and the grid usually costs less in labour. Compared with strip ceiling carriers, which produce a directional linear ceiling, the T-Grid creates a modular field of tiles. For seamless plasterboard ceilings, drywall framing is used instead, with access provided through dedicated access panels.

Why specify the Jawdah T-Grid

Jawdah produces both the grid and many of the tiles it carries, so the T-Grid can be ordered together with lay-in metal tiles, open cell tiles or gypsum tiles and the accessories that hang them. The data lists maximum economy and design simplicity, corrosion and humidity resistance, and safe, fast and simple installation among its features, along with being environmentally friendly and recyclable.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between T-24 and T-15 grid?

The difference is the visible flange width. T-24 has a 24 mm wide exposed flange and is the standard grid for square-edge lay-in tiles; T-15 has a 15 mm wide flange for a narrower sight line and a finer ceiling appearance.

What thicknesses does the Jawdah T-Grid come in?

Jawdah lists two thicknesses: 0.28mm Regular and 0.32mm Heavy duty. The heavy-duty option is discussed when a ceiling carries more fittings or heavier tiles.

What are the lengths of the T-Grid components?

The Main-Tee is 3600MM, Cross-Tee (120) is 1200MM and Cross-Tee (60) is 600MM. Wall angles are available in L-shape, W-shape and U-shape, and hangers, adjustment clips and anchor bolts complete the system.

How many colours are available for the grid cap?

Jawdah offers 9 main standard colors, with other colors upon client request. The cap can also be aluminum, and the pre-painted cap is available with anti-bacterial paint on request.

Is the Jawdah T-Grid available in imperial sizes?

Yes. The Jawdah data lists metric and imperial sizes. Imperial component dimensions are confirmed with the Jawdah team per project.

Which tiles can be installed on the Jawdah T-Grid?

The grid is listed as compatible with square edge (lay-on), lay-in, tegular edge and clip-in ceiling tiles. Jawdah records it as the suspension for its lay-in metal tiles, aluminum open cell lay-on tiles and gypsum tiles.

What fire rating does the T-Grid have?

The Jawdah data records Fire Rating (Raw Material) Class A1. This describes the raw material, not a fire-resistance period for an installed ceiling.

Can the grid be taken apart after installation?

Yes. Jawdah states that the lock design makes the grid module demountable without tools, which helps when a section must be opened for new services.

How much load can the T-Grid carry?

Jawdah does not publish a numerical load value; its data states that the system offers appropriate load-carrying capacities for tiles. Heavy fittings should be reviewed per project and supported independently where required.
