Plain GRG Ceiling Tiles — PVC Laminated or Painted, Lay-On, Lay-In / Tegular

Jawdah plain GRG ceiling tiles are unperforated glass-fibre reinforced gypsum tiles, 12.5 mm thick, with a smooth PVC laminated or painted face and an aluminum foil back, supplied lay-on, lay-in or tegular for T-24 and T-15 grids.

Jawdah Industrial Co. Ltd. supplies plain GRG ceiling tiles with a smooth, unperforated face, PVC laminated or painted, in a range of lengths and widths. The tiles are square or rectangular and fit both T15 and T24 grid systems, giving a clean, continuous ceiling plane in which every tile lifts out for access to services above.

Because the PVC-laminated face wipes clean and the reinforced core resists knocks, the plain GRG tile is a practical choice for hygiene-sensitive and high-traffic interiors. Where the same grid also needs sound absorption, Jawdah supplies acoustical perforated GRG tiles with the same core and edges.

Quick answer

Plain GRG ceiling tiles are smooth, unperforated glass-fibre reinforced gypsum tiles for exposed grids. Jawdah's version is 12.5 mm thick, weighs 10.25 Kg/M2, has a minimum core density of 820 Kg/M3 and light reflectance of more than 0.8 to BS 8493:2008. It is PVC laminated or painted with an aluminum foil back, in 600x600 mm (lay-on, lay-in or tegular) and 600x1200 mm (lay-on), for T-24 and T-15 grids.

A reinforced, closed-face ceiling tile

The plain GRG tile combines a glass-fibre reinforced gypsum core with a closed, reflective face. It does not absorb sound; its job is to give a durable, cleanable and bright ceiling surface that tolerates repeated handling during maintenance.

Jawdah supplies the tiles with the appropriate suspension systems, and with more than 20 PVC lamination film colours and paint finishes, including an anti-bacterial paint option.

Core, face and back

The core is gypsum reinforced with glass fibre, cast to a 12.5 mm slab with a minimum density of 820 Kg/M3. Reinforcement is what lets the tile carry a rebated tegular edge without the rebate crumbling under handling.

The face is either a PVC lamination film or paint. The back is enhanced with aluminum foil; Jawdah references water vapour transmission for the tile according to ASTM E 96-00.

Edge and size combinations

Plain GRG is the closed-face Jawdah tile with the widest edge choice. Each edge suits a different ceiling look; match the edge to the grid detail on the drawings.

Rooms suited to plain GRG

Jawdah lists halls, computer rooms, utility rooms, hospitals, shops, offices, airports and exhibition centers as application areas. In practice, the tile earns its place in hospital wards and corridors, clinic treatment rooms, airport service areas, retail back-of-house and server or computer rooms, where frequent access and cleaning would mark or chip a standard tile.

Design points

A tegular edge drops the tile face below the grid and adds a shadow line around each tile, which hides small level differences and gives a more tailored look. A lay-on edge gives the flattest ceiling plane and suits long 600x1200 mm modules. With light reflectance above 0.8, a white or light-coloured plain GRG ceiling helps keep lighting loads down; check that the chosen film colour preserves this.

The stated weight of 10.25 Kg/M2 should be included in the grid and hanger design, especially where luminaires or diffusers are also carried by the grid.

On site

Confirm the edge type on each delivery against the room's grid detail before installing; a lay-on tile in a tegular area, or the reverse, shows immediately. Fit tegular perimeter tiles with a re-cut rebate or a flat seating on the wall angle as detailed. Wear clean gloves; the smooth face shows fingerprints until wiped.

Installation Manual and Tests are available in hard copy from Jawdah.

Acceptance checks

Check thickness (12.5 mm), edge type, size and colour against the approved sample. Inspect tegular rebates for chipping and the face for film defects. Spot-weigh a tile if the specification calls for verification of the stated 10.25 Kg/M2.

Cleaning and long-term care

Ease of cleaning, durability and simple installation are among the features Jawdah lists for plain GRG. PVC laminated faces can be wiped regularly with a neutral detergent; anti-bacterial painted faces should be cleaned with products compatible with the paint system. Replace tiles damaged by leaks rather than drying them in place.

Plain GRG or plain gypsum?

Both have a closed face, an aluminum foil back and light reflectance above 0.8. Plain gypsum offers more thicknesses (7.5 to 15 mm), four types and a stated Class E reference, but only a lay-on edge. Plain GRG offers reinforcement, impact resistance, lay-in and tegular edges, and a fixed weight and density. See Plain Gypsum Ceiling Tiles for the gypsum option.
